About the Project
Work Packages
WP1 - Analysis & Technology Transfer
At the beginning a thorough analysis of the existing Process Development process chain in the participating core SMEs will be performed. The analysis of the SME structure, their potentials, needs and experiences with injection moulding simulation will be carried out by Polyconcent (PCT) with the assistance of the other RTD partners and the IAGs. This is done by elaborated questionnaires and personal discussions. PCT has lots of experience in this work, but needs assistance by the IAGs and RTDs to take care of the differences in culture, language and way of work.
Up to now only 10 % of the EU SME use injection moulding simulation on a regular basis. Most of the SMEs are not familiar with it and lack the knowledge of the benefits. Therefore in the first step an analysis of state of the art of usage of injection moulding simulation in especially the core SMEs and also other SMEs will be carried out.
In the second step the core SMEs will be prepared for the daily use of improved product development process and injection moulding simulation.

WP2 - PDGS - Product Development Guidance System
To address the optimisation of the product development process chain one dedicated work package – WP 2 - deals with the development of a new Product Development Guidance System – PDGS software tool and the Handbook and Guidelines for the Certification of it uses. This will be done based on the analysis in WP1/T1, the evaluation of key parameters in OEMs obligation book, the application & quality development and serial production for complex parts, and by a minimum 5 of transnational and from several industrial branches case studies. Having the new PDGS, it is time for the implementation of the results of the project into the coreSME and the related training for SME/IAG. To reach the targeted reduction in time-to-market and in costs, the PDGS implementation and validation in two representative participating SMEs is a crucial objective in WP 2 to refine the PDGS software. As important as the PDGS software, PDGS Handbook & Certification is going to be developed for its suitable uses as a brand of quality. IAGs will give it to EU-SMEs users.

WP3 - Development of Injection Moulding Simulation Software
In WP 3 simulation software will be developed based on the existing simulation software Cadmould. This software can handle parts with inserts, multi component injection moulding. The effect of PvT data depending on cooling rates on shrinkage and warpage result quality will be investigated, as well as a SME suitable measurement system for rheological data will be developed. Including the documentation and the validation of the new parts, this is a keystone for the optimised process chain and the applicability of the PDGS. Together with the PDGS and the training this enables the SME to fully use the cost and time advantages in the future.

WP4 - Training
The ambitiously large scale of the training initiative and the high time pressure to transfer the RTD results to a large number of experts at SME requires a carefully designed training and implementation plan. To generate maximum efficiency at the know-how transfer process between RTD and SME, the following approach was established. Ahead of the trainings, a detailed model for efficient and sustainable training plan will be developed by KC, together with the other main IAG (GKV, ASSOC, AITII and GP) in Task 4.1 within the first month of project duration. It is important to stress out that the activities within Task 4.1 are related to the organisational point of view of the later trainings. The reason for the Task 4.1 is to prepare the appropriate training models, which will be used for the trainings in the tasks 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4. The content of the training material for the new training models will be prepared within each of the WP 1, 2, and 3, for what, the WP managers are responsible. The work for the preparation of the training materials for the new training models is the work which will be done and charged to WP 1, 2 and 3.

WP5 - Dissemination & Exploitation
The results of the research work will constitute a breakthrough for European parts and components designers, toolmakers, converters and other SME related to the value chain of plastics and will establish this technology as a leading technology of EU source.
This requires a Europe wide dissemination of the project results and developed technologies. The structure of the project consortium is an excellent basis for that. Core SMEs getting more competitiveness and innovative with the project results and will be pioneers in best practice. RTD partners will present the outcome of their work in the project and the project results on scientific conferences, in the public and plastics branch. Center of dissemination activities are subject of the work of IAGs according to their members, national SMEs, but also within the European network of IAGs and their members, not directly involved in the project. Based on this European network of IAGs, dissemination to the targeted number of SMEs is accessible.
The economic success of the Core SMEs, using the new technologies will competitors cause - also requested by their customers - to use the developed technologies and outcome of the project.
